So often, amazing indie authors are overlooked, unseen, drifting in some sort of internet purgatory. I’ve often heard it compared to screaming into a void. After witnessing our book community come together after a negative thing this past week, I was inspired to celebrate indie authors. I’m going to start with an author who’s also my friend: Rebecca Byron. Mark my words, she’s going places. She’s full of determination and the kind of moxie a woman needs to succeed in life and she writes like the dickens…not literal Dickens but you get what I’m saying. Dickens had his day, it’s Rebecca Byron’s turn. 

  Rebecca has such a unique writing style in her books. Her voice is strong, her characters bold. I want to invite you to partake in two books, A Memory Not Mine and Memory of the Blood Moon. These books are succulent—stories you can really sink your teeth into. But also there are vampires, and those who know me know one thing first: I really adore vampires. I’m a sucker for a blood-sucker, and Rebecca delivers 110%. Baird is book husband goals. I love that man.

  I’m not done yet. Rebecca nominated Eve Silver, and if you love gothic romance, you will love Eve Silver, end of. The woman should be synonymous with the genre by now. I first found Eve when she started writing the Dark Gothic series. She’s a fantastic author with quite the catalogue, and she’s got a new book release coming on August 25th, 2026. Where Darkness Lingers is listed on Amazon as a Ghost Suspense, Paranormal Ghost Romance, and Gothic Romance. 

  I’ve read almost every book she’s published, and they’re all wonderful. The Gothic and multi-sub-genres are my favorites. So my heart lies at the feet of Eve Silver. She takes you into her stories, as if you’re being tugged through time, cushioned from all outside input—that’s fancy pants way of saying, you will absolutely be up past your bedtime reading these books. 

  Eve’s books are also on Amazon and KU. *I’m not 100% sure if all her books are in KU. But I doublechecked for the Dark Gothic series.*

  While we’re on the subject of gothic novels, I want to mention another indie author who wrote a book that just broke my soul, not only with her writing skills but the power of her gothic storytelling. The super-woman that is Cara Wylde. She wrote Thing of Ruin and Thing of Sorrow. FYI: I’ll be doing a review on Thing of Sorrow shortly because I’ve been dying to read the sequel. Thing of Ruin will break you, but it’s a beautiful story, beautifully written by a wonderful lady. 

  There’s something classic about Cara’s writing in Thing of Ruin. It really is something to behold, the world building and the feel of looming darkness that chases you, never quite capturing you but you know it’s there, the breath of foreboding gentle against the back of your neck, tickling at your senses, and waiting to pounce. Honestly, I don’t feel like my words are adequate for this book because it’s a whole vibe. But one day in the future, I imagine a college student is going to be reading the classics and Thing of Ruin is going to be in the textbooks. You won’t soon forget this book. I know, I haven’t.

  Cara writes in multi genres and her books never disappoint. She is a truly gifted author and I hope you give her books a try. *You can find Cara’s books on Amazon and in KU. She has a large catalogue & I don’t want to misquote.*
